Defamation case against Trinamool candidate.

Dipankar Edbar,Ranaghat (Nadia) : Trinamool Lok Sabha candidate of Nadia Ranaghat seat Mukutmani Adhikari allegedly attacked BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar calling as 'Jagasur'. He allegedly also defamed him raising the corruption issue on jobs in AIIMS Kalyani. That's why Sarkar filed a defamation case against the Trinamool candidate. The court accepted the case on Monday.

It may be noted that BJP and Trinamool have announced candidates for Ranaghat constituency in 2024 Lok Sabha elections. BJP has again announced the current MP as its candidate for Ranaghat constituency. On the other hand, Trinamool has recently announced MLA Mukutamani Adhikari as its candidate for Trinamool. Adhikari recently left BJP.

After that, both parties have come down to the streets to campaign. During the campaign, the Trinamool candidate attacked the BJP candidate Jagannath Sarkar during interviews at various media. He termed Jagannath Sarkar as 'Jagasura'.

Apart from this, Mukutmani Adhikari said that during the last five years, Jagannath Sarkar has misused the power of MPs and collected money from various places illegally.

Not only that, he has corrupted lakhs of rupees in the name of giving jobs in Kalyani AIIMS hospital.

The BJP candidate Sarkar alleged that he was defamed by this comment from Mukutmani Adhikari. So , he filed a defamation case against Trinamool candidate Mukutmani Adhikari in the Court.

Jagannath Sarkar said, I have been a teacher for 35 years. On the other hand, for the last five years, I have been an MP from Ranaghat constituency. In such a situation, the negative comments made against me are completely baseless. I feel that these comments against me in the public media have defamed me. That is why I have filed a defamation case against the TMC candidate.

Raja Banerjee, the lawyer of MP and BJP candidate Jagannath Sarkar said, " A case has been filed with the Additional Magistrate of Ranaghat Court due to all the comments made by Mukutmani Adhikari against my client. The Court has accepted the case. The case will be heard at a later date."

On the other hand, Mukutmani Adhikari said, " Each of Ranaghat area knows that Jagannath Sarkar is a master of saying unseemly words. The allegations made by him does not fit to his characteristics."

While Adhikari was asked if he did utter the unseemly words against Jagannath Sarkar for which Sarkar moved to the court and filed a Defamation case against him. He said, " I can't remember. I have received no letter on the issue so far. However, Let the letter come first."
